More information about Shakti Naam Yoga and meditation

History of origin

Naam Yoga was further developed by Dr. Joseph Michael Levry (Gurunam) from Kundalini Yoga (according to Yogi Bhajan). Through the combination with Shakti Naam techniques (Sukshma Vyayama) and the understanding of universal laws from the teachings of the Universal Kabbalah, a yoga and meditation technique was created that stimulates physical and mental fitness as well as personal spiritual development.

Key content and impact

Naam Yoga and Shakti Naam open all the meridian systems in the body and massage our glands and organs in a specific way so that blockages can dissolve and energy can flow freely again.

Essential elements of Shakti Naam Yoga and meditation practice are based on the:

  • Science of breath
Pranayama, energizing, calming, detoxifying and other breathing techniques
  • Science of sound
Creation of vibrations through healing sounds and mantras(-> Music / Mantras by Rootlight)
  • The science of mudras
Activation of meridians and brain regions through certain hand/finger gestures
  • Science of the Universal Kabbalah*
Teaching of the visible and invisible laws of nature, including planetary influences
*The teachings of Universal Kabbalah are independent of religion. It teaches us to understand how we can shape our lives through our thoughts, emotions and actions, but also how we can change and influence them in a positive way.

Shakti Naam - Sukshma Vyayama and Kundalini

Exercises while standing, sitting and moving provide variety and cheerfulness

Naam Yoga combines the best of the Eastern yoga tradition with the best of Western wisdom, the Universal Kabbalah. It includes Kundalini yoga elements, breathing, mudra and meditation techniques, as well as powerful mantras that have an activating, regenerating, strengthening and harmonizing effect. With regular practice, Shakti Naam Yoga and meditation leads to inner strength, clarity and serenity.

Shakti Naam exercises are very powerful standing and sitting yoga techniques that are still largely unknown in the western world. They originate from the Sukshma Vyayama tradition, which is also known as the "yoga of immortality". Yogis say that these techniques can effectively prevent or slow down the ageing process and the health problems associated with it.

Shakti Naam works like a self-accupuncture, it:

  • stretches and opens our body
  • opens all meridian systems and our lungs
  • brings a lot of energy (prana, life force) into our body right into every cell
  • releases blockages in the body
  • Massages important organs in a specific, effective way
  • cleanses, renews and enriches the blood
  • relaxes the sympathetic nervous system
  • strengthens the parasympathetic nervous system
  • Harmonizes/regulates blood pressure
  • strengthens the immune system
  • harmonizes the endocrine system (glandular and hormonal system)

The science of breathing

Breathing exercises are called pranayama. Naam Yoga is the science and mastery of the breath and the creation of sound vibrations. These are the most important aspects of Naam Shakti. By controlling the breath, we can control the mind. A calm and level-headed person breathes calmly and slowly. An emotional and tense state of mind, on the other hand, increases the breathing rate.

The breath in combination with the Naam or the mantra sound vibration awakens the hidden creative energy, also called the Adi Shakti or Kundalini power.

Some important breathing techniques include fire breathing, breath-of-glow, segmented breathing, Sitali Pranayama, navel pump breathing, special nasal breathing and many more, each of which has a specific effect.

The science of sound / Mantras

A mantra is a sequence of sounds designed to uplift and change consciousness through the repetition (recitation/vibration) of certain rhythms. Mantras are coded sounds, comparable to telephone numbers. Each has a unique effect. Mantra means "projection of the mind" and is a technique to direct our mind. Mantras are mystical words, but they are far more valuable than the words we use in everyday language.

When studying the human anatomy, insiders discovered a relationship between a certain nerve center in the brain and certain sound vibrations. The greatest strength of the human being is located in the frontal brain and the upper palate. Our whole personality is regulated by our frontal brain, which we can control with the help of mantras. Controlling the frontal brain prevents impulsive behavior and creates a meditative mind. Those who regulate and control the nervous system with the help of chanting can free themselves from illness.

The combination of sound, resonance and rhythm creates an altered consciousness that generates new thought patterns. However, how powerful a mantra is depends on the level of consciousness. The more you chant, the higher your consciousness develops.

The science of mudras

Mudras ... energy circuits of the hands

Mudras are healing symbols that act like energetic keys. By using the hands and fingers as symbols and energy circuits, we can awaken our consciousness and activate the specific energy patterns necessary to bring about the desired (healing) effect. The effectiveness of a mudra depends crucially on how long it is used. When a mudra is practiced regularly over a long period of time, it creates an energetic path that brings out the original power and purpose of the mudra.

The teaching of mudras is based on the fundamental principle that everything that exists in the macrocosm can also be found in the microcosm. Mudra yoga balances the five elements of fire, earth, water, air and space (ether) in the body. Mudras support the flow of thoughts and prepare us for a more subtle perception. The repetition of certain recurring postures, which refine our awareness in a targeted way, enables us to recognize instinctive patterns of behaviour and develop the ability to let them go. In this way, Mudra Yoga has a positive influence on health and mood.

The fingers represent the five elements that are part of our bio-electrical body system. In good health, this electrical current flows unhindered through the body's meridians. If blockages impede the flow of energy, the result is illness, lethargy, weight fluctuations, moodiness, etc.. Mudras dissolve such blockages and strengthen the life force so that the body can recover.
